I am writing to you concerning my joint article (Issue 16 ACATnews) with my co-author Anna Smith on working with a client who is blind, since I have a couple of gripes.
Firstly I question whether this was an appropriate issue to print our article. All the other papers were 2002 conference papers, which meant that ours was out on a limb. I wonder why you did not keep it for the next issue, where it would not, presumably have been so out of character with the other articles.
Secondly and to my mind much more serious you have printed it without the accompanying SDR. Since the whole point of the article was to address the particular needs of clients who are not sighted, and how one might get round this with an SDR, which is a visual map of the client's inner world, to print the article without it makes no sense. I sent you both an attachment copy and a hard copy through the post, so there should have been no problem about including this. In addition in the body of the article it makes mention of the SDR "diagram 1" and then none is given. What was going on when this piece was set for print?
Thirdly I do find it irritating to have my name spelt wrong on the front cover of the newsletter. Surely it is not too much to ask to check such things. I am sorry if this all sounds bad-tempered, but I have felt real ambivalence about the whole process since seeing the newsletter and rather wish I had never sent the article in.

The Editor writes:
We apologise for the errors, but due to the technical and time limitations on the previous edition we were unable to finally proof the newsletter before it was printed. The SDR has been printed as a separate sheet and has been sent out with this edition of Reformulation and for inclusion in the previous issue of ACATnews. Further copies can be obtained from the ACAT Office.
ACAT Trainees
I am a second year trainee on the Shropshire Practitioner Training Course. I enjoy ACATnews but I particularly like the articles directed at trainees, and I would like to hear from people on other training courses – for instance what have been their experiences of their first/second years? Would they like to share particularly successful training experiences, pieces of work, etc?
If other people also feel like this then I would be happy to help try to promote a trainees’ page or column.
