At first sight it is hard to see any connection between the articles we have included in this issue, but perhaps the connection is the theme of looking at things in detail, with great care and attention, until they start to make sense. From Nicola Rogal’s article about how important making a correct diagnosis of obsessive compulsive disorder can be, to Jim Hubbock’s detailed analysis of state descriptions. Of course, some of our clients resist getting things down on paper and the sense of being labelled that can go with it, but from the very start CAT has attempted to describe and agree the problems that people wanted to work on. The greatest CAT skills are often needed in making this a bearable experience for some people, rather than leaving them feeling criticised and judged. The therapeutic relationship is as important as ever in this regard and we have a couple of articles looking at that in more detail too.
Alice Knight has kindly volunteered to take on the role of scanning other journals for CAT articles and we have her first summary presented in this issue. Can we remind you that we are planning to retire after two more issues of Reformulation, so please think about whether you would be able to take it over around this time next year. Thanks again to Jon Sloper for all his hard work on making every issue look so professional.
