Riverhill. A, 2022. Blackbird. Reformulation 55, p. 28
The song of the Blackbird is arguably the most beautiful of birds, yet how often do we stop to listen.
A common sight, they perch, feed, communicate, listen and build in our gardens, parks and woodlands, yet how often do we stop to notice.
The beast astray has no sense of his environment yet he has some meaning in his foolish life…
The Blackbird in my painting may seem small and insignificant but that’s exactly what it isn’t. And if it is, it means we all are.
Who, over the ruins of life, our fleeting existence, suffering its seeming meaninglessness and lived madness, can be above the little Blackbird.
Look again and you will see the little Blackbird is central to the painting.
It draws us back into the beauty and harmony of nature. It draws us into the present moment, and out of conflicting emotions close to the surface.
Many of us live trapped or lost in the movement of thought.
Let’s live lost in the movement of the little Blackbird.
