TOPIC : RACE, LANGUAGE and CULTURE - CAT CUMBRIA CPD EVENT
Facilitators: Jessie Emilion, Chair of ACAT, & Dupe Adu-White, Chair of ACAT EDI Committee
In this workshop, we shall explore issues around race and culture and the impact of these on self and others in clinical work and supervision.
We shall invite participants to explore both individual identity and organisational positioning, in relation to this topic. There is an emphasis on participants to be open to learning, ‘feel comfortable with the uncomfortable feelings’ that are often evoked in us when confronting issues of power and powerlessness in relation to the powerful social construct of Race. The day will be scaffolded to create a safe space for us to have a dialogue and recognise that we always exist within a social system and context.
The workshop will offer an opportunity for us to reflect on our conscious and unconscious processes, positions that are disowned or disavowed and recognise healing can happen through shared understanding, dialogue and creativity.
There will be a power-point presentation, large and small group discussion, and clinical case scenarios – (please bring a case).
From this we aim to:
Cost: voluntary contributions of £35 will be appreciated on the day to cover presenter expenses and refreshments which will be provided.
Transport: please let me know if you can offer or would like to request a lift, e.g. from Oxenholme Lake District, Grange-Over-Sands, or Windermere stations
