CAT Competences Framework

CAT Competences Framework:  A Competency Approach to Training

The framework describes the full family of CAT competences defining the knowledge and skills required to facilitate safe and effective CAT.

The framework and specific competences are designed to be viewed online:

It is publicly available alongside those of other psychological therapy models http://www.ucl.ac.uk/core/competence-frameworks/

The CAT framework can be accessed through the above page or directly by this link Competence Framework for Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) | UCL Psychology and Language Sciences - UCL – University College London

On this page you will find a map of the CAT competences. Clicking on any domain opens up the list of competences for that domain.  In addition, there is a guide for clinicians and commissioners which describes each of the domains and the principles which guided the development of the framework.

There is also a description of CAT for service users - a non-technical description of what service users can expect from a therapist if they are offered a CAT intervention. You can also view this at its dedicated page - What Is Cognitive Analytic Therapy?

To learn more about the development of the CAT Competence Framework, you can download an open access publication:
